Laser Innovation Lab

Applied Laser Development at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh

Welcome

The Laser Innovation Lab is located in Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, and is headed by Dr Richard McCracken. Our areas of research include the development of new laser sources for multi-photon microscopy; mid-infrared single-photon generation; and frequency comb enabled astrophotonics.

New paper on Kerr-lens mode-locked hot-isostatic-pressed Cr:ZnSe laser

May 25, 2022/ Richard McCracken

We have published a new paper comparing the performance of a Kerr-lens mode-locked Cr:ZnSe laser before and after hot-isostatic-pressing (HIP) of the laser medium. HIP-treating the crystal produces shorter pulses and more stable mode-locking. Congratulations to our colleagues in Milan for this great result!
